Get to Know the
Pain Management Clinic
The Pain Management Clinic at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society, was established to diagnose the underlying causes and pathology of pain.
Pain is one of the most common reasons patients seek medical treatment at hospitals. Pain management plays a crucial role in patient care across all medical fields. The World Health Organization has recognized pain as the fifth vital sign and affirmed that appropriate pain relief is a fundamental right of all patients. Inadequate pain management can lead to complications or complex chronic conditions, which may result in longer hospital stays and negatively impact the patient’s quality of life, their family, and society at large.
With advances in modern medicine, more patients are surviving serious illnesses but often continue to suffer from recurring or chronic pain—such as pain from cancer, post-surgical pain syndrome, or pain resulting from chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Additionally, there has been an increase in pain caused by work-related conditions or physical degeneration, including chronic back pain, neck pain, joint pain (chronic musculoskeletal pain), and pain caused by disorders of the nervous system (neuropathic pain).
